In the midst of all this creative energy and fun, our world has experienced one of it's greatest tragedies due to the earthquake in Haiti. But, thanks to Thomasin Durgin and the ring she made as an homage to the people of Haiti, we all can help! We are very proud to say that many Ring-a-Day artists are donating rings to raise money to help Haiti in this incredible time of need. She has gathered 26 rings thus far and will be auctioning them off in the near future. Stay tuned to her blog for the auction information and the name of the charity the money will be donated to.

ETSYMETAL Jewelry Challenge: Project Runway Season 7.1 "Five!"

EtsyMetal Jewelry Challenge: Project Runway:
Season 7: Episode 1: "Five!"

"Welcome back to our EtsyMetal Jewelry Challenge!"
This the first challenge of season 7 and we are very excited to start creating again!
For those of you who are just stopping in for a peek, EtsyMetal is holding a fun freestyle Jewelry Challenge that coincides with Project Runway episodes. We take our inspiration from the show and translate it into a new jewelry challenge every week!
Everyone is welcome to play, see below for guest participant guidelines.
Every weekend after the new episode airs we will post the video link of the latest PR challenge, then we post all the submissions from the previous weeks challenge in the same blogpost.
If you would like to see the entire Season 6 of the last EtsyMetal Jewelry Challenge click HERE. Then scroll to the bottom to start at the beginning. There were alot of fabulous pieces created last season!

Allrighty then, this weeks challenge was a little vague to me.  Tim Gunn asked the designers to run and grab as much Mood fabric they could in 3 minutes. then he said, "Now only pick 5 of them that you love, and make something that represents and speaks about you and your style."

For this to be interpreted into a jewelry challenge and to spice it up a bit,  I am grasping on to the 5 statement and asking you to incorporate the number 5 somehow,  your interpretation of that.
For some examples, use 5 stones, patterns of 5, the actual number 5, what does 5 mean to you? Does 5 have any special significance to you?

**guidelines for guest participants:**

Please read this every week as there may be small updates and changes. The pieces you submit must be pieces that are made specifically for that weeks challenge. Then post your links in this weeks comment area, I will retrieve them as they come in before the deadline.
*We only are accepting guest submissions from our blog comment area at this time, insert your links there. Then please cross-post this to your Blog, Flickr, Etsy, etc. And tag them with "Project Runway Season 7 Episode 1." Currently we will post your name with a link and a picture of your piece on our blog. Remember, the rigid deadline for submitting your link is always on Fridays, 12 noon, Pacific Standard Time. The new blog posts will go up the weekend after the new episode airs.

We can't wait to see what you will come up with!

Charm Swap Five Progress

Charm Swap Five is underway, the deadline for finished charms is January 31, 2010. As with previous swaps, each of the 20 participants creates 22 charms - one for each swap member and one to be sold in the EtsyMetal shop along with a bracelet that features all of the charms. Sales from this swap will go to a charitable arts organization, yet to be determined. SimplyMega, Tuizui, and Alphabettispaghetti were early birds and have have completed all of their charms. As for the rest of us, some have vague ideas, some have working prototypes, and a few will undoubtedly work right up to the deadline (I'm in the last group).

Alphabettispaghetti's wonderful spoon charms in progress:

SimplyMega's WIP pictures:

and her fun mixed-metal charms:

Tuizui's enameled charms made from argentium silver and PMC:

Experimetal will be creating her charms in the style of her silver necklace with captured steel ball:

sarawestermark says, "I've been toying with the idea of hollow charms with a stone setting. I think I might do a more moon or lunar surface with holes, but these were my prototypes. They are .75 inches wide."

CynthiaDelGiudice fold-formed copper WIP

Maggie J says her charm design is, "inspired by my new button rings I've been making. I have blue topaz, citrine, amethyst, peridot, and possibly garnet that size, so there will be a variety of colors."

KathrynRiechert plans "to do little jeweler amulets. Each will have a quartz crystal on it and there are several different messages I've decided upon."

And finally, MarKaplan's WIP in textured silver:

Watch for more CS5 updates as we approach the January 31 deadline!
