Hello from the frigid Midwest!
I'm here to give you the news on what is happening in the lives of our Etsy Metal team members, so without further ado.....


Meg Auth of Simply MegA will be exhibiting a mixed media/jewelry,wall art piece entitled "Golden Eggs" in the
Mercury Bay Art Escape: "Taste of the Tour Showcase Exhibition"

Opening Feb 28 at Hot Waves Cafe in Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel in New Zealand.

After completing a year-long invitation only course on metal clay instruction and technique, Laura Bracken was recently added to Hadar Jacobson's website "Art in Silver" as an accredited teacher.
Congrats Laura!  This is a big accomplishment.

Danielle Miller will be promoting her "Make your own Wedding Band" workshops at the Feb 8th Wedding Festival in Greenville, SC.
She will also be featured in the local artist reception at llyn strong fine jewelry in Greenville, SC on Feb 16th : https://www.facebook.com/events/4430602 ... n&source=1


L. Sue Szabo is exhibiting work at the show Materials Hard and Soft in Denton TX. This is an annual national all-media show. It runs from 2/7-4/4/14. If you're in north TX, do stop by this show, it is always excellent.

L. Sue Szabo was recently published in the new Jinks McGrath book, "Metalsmithing for Jewelry Makers". Several of her works are shown in the chapter on enameling. It's available on Amazon now.

3xR Challenge 2014 week 3

We have been digging deep in our respective studios to bring you another treasure trove of beauties for week 3 of our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle challenge for 2014.  Special mention this week for Kirsten Skiles of KnitSteel who has managed to reuse a copper raising sample from 1997.  She now has a rather fantastic Ikebana vase for her shop!  Can any of the 3xR-ers beat that?  Is there anything from the early 90's lurking in the back of your drawers that could become something beautiful? Come on, have a dig around!

3xR Challenge 2014 week1

We do like to push ourselves here at Etsy Metal.  A brand new year means a brand new challenge for some of our members.  This year we will be Reducing, Reusing and Recycling, those are the 3 R's.  It's time to dust off those pieces at the back of the drawer and re-purpose and reuse them.  It's time to reduce our stash of cabochons and gems.  It's time to recycle our scrap metal.

I for one am really looking forward to a year of innovation and creativity as the 3xR challenge forces us to design and fabricate beautiful things from the stuff we already have in our workshops.

Members' News for the Month of January

Welcome 2014!  This is an update on what our members are doing this frigid month of January.

Drum roll please,

Miranda Scott of House on Hudson, has been selected as a finalist for the 2014 NICHE Awards, in the category of "Silver with Stones". Winners will be announced on January 18th, 2014 at the Buyer's Market of American Craft in Philadelphia.  Congratulations Miranda!

Shae Freeman's belt buckles (aka citizenobjects) are going to be featured in the winter addition of Belle Armoire! Available January 1st on newstands everywhere.  Awesome Shae!


L. Sue Szabo will be showing a series of brooches, called Stitches, at the upcoming international exhibit called "Material Matters". This exhibit is part of East Carolina University's metal symposium and is being held at the Leo Jenkins Gallery at the School of Art and Design, ECU, Greenville, NC. The show will be up 1/14/14-2/10/14.

Bracken Designs will participate in an invitation-only luxury celebrity gift lounge hosted by GBK Productions on January 10-11, 2014 at an exclusive location in Beverly Hills, California, in honor of The 2014 Golden Globes Nominees and Presenters. All attending celebrities will receive a pair of these earrings in their swag bags. These sterling silver and cultured freshwater pearl earrings were designed and handcrafted by Laura Bracken for the Golden Globes event.  These gorgeous earrinngs are pictured below-
