This Week's Challenge:
Project Runway: Season 9, Episode 10
Season 9; Episode 10
Project Runway Challenge:
For this episode, the designers must look to the past and create a modern look inspired by 70's fashion.
Our EtsyMetal Challenge Translation:
Dig your feet into that green shag carpet and make a piece inspired by 1970's trends, style, and fashion.
Here are the submissions:
"Time in a Bottle"
Since I'm not too into high fashion of any era let alone the 70's... I decided to go a bit kitsch on this one and use a scene from the Electric Company as inspiration. Remember on Project Runway Joshua said he wasn't even alive in the 70's ... Well, not to reveal how old I am, but I was! I loved the kids shows! So, I took the image from the show but made up the words. I didn't think a belt saying "cup" would make much sense:)
Charm bracelets were very popular in the 70's so this is my 2011 version of the 70's.
Forged copper wire with enamel leaf charms.

I was born in the 70's but thankfully, since I was just a child, I never had to embrace the fashion styles! One thing I do like from that time period is the chunky jewelry. For the challenge this week, I avoided the chevron or graphic shapes and just stuck to big and bold.
I was a child in the 70's and I remember polyester, and macrame plant holders and making God's Eyes (Ojo de Dios) out of twigs and yarn. I made this God's Eye pendant from copper and sterling silver.
Mine is an extra large medallion eye of Horus. There was an Egyptian trend for a while in the '70's. I remember going to the museum with my class to see the King Tut exhibit that was traveling around the US. The eye of Horus is a symbol of protection.
Inspired by the Disco Age, these earrings have their own little disco balls. Crazy long and big, to go with all that hair and polyester. I would have made them in gold but gold is not at 1970's prices!

Next Week's Challenge:
Season 9; Episode 11
Due Date: Thursday, October 13, midnight.
Project Runway Challenge:
For this episode, exotic birds serve as the inspiration for the L'Oreal Challenge. The designer's must really step up their game when Tim reveals that during judging they will go head-to-head with one other designer putting one in the top and one in the bottom.
Our EtsyMetal Challenge Translation:
Create a piece (or two) using the birds, Charming Cockatoo, Watchful Owl, Audacious Amazon, or Sultry Raven. You may use the color pallet of the L'Oreal Limited Edition Collection, Colors Take Flight or the birds themselves.
Make it work!
