ETSYMETAL Jewelry Challenge: Project Runway Season 13.2 REVEAL "Unconventional Movie Challenge"

Welcome to the reveal of last weeks' Episode 2

"The Unconventional Movie Challenge"

The Project Runway challenge: When an afternoon of fun at a local movie theatre turns into a challenge, designers will have to show their innovative side to create a fashionable look out of unconventional materials they find in the theater and a film set.

The EtsyMetal Translation: We asked our EtsyMetal team members to create a piece of jewelry using similar materials that were used on the runway  (film, paper, straws, zip ties, cd's or letters) or use a movie theme or item to inspire.

And here are our 6 team members and our 1 guest submission reveal!

Anna says, "I used zip ties, straws, letters, and compact discs. I fused the straws and compact discs between tin foil using a hot cast iron pan then I sawed out the shapes. These fabulously tacky shoulder duster earrings were inspired by the winning teams colors and the 80's movie "Desperately Seeking Susan" starring Madonna!

Shannon Conrad "Golden Popcorn Ring"
Shannon says, "For this piece I had the crazy idea of trying to cast a piece of popcorn because what good is a movie without snacks? Sterling Silver, Bronze."
Michele says, "I went with the "electrical/movie theater lighting" theme. I used duct tape and electrical wire left over from some home renovations. Both were items used in making the dresses in the winning collection. I made a rose bracelet to go with my favorite dress from that collection.... and I went with a rose because of my rose collection in my metal jewelry."

Jessica says, "I used material I had around the studio that was also included in the challenge. I used colored straws for the majority of the piece. I didn't have movie letters but made some sequins out of transparency sheets and added touches of black with a sharpie."

Evelyn says, "Of course, I had to go with letters. Also inspired by the movie - Jean Michel Basquiat, Radiant Child - and the artist, Paul Klee. I used 'A to Z' - letters pierced out of copper, torch-fired enamels with alphabet decals. They are big, 2" wide x 2.5" long"

"I'm happy I was able to make a piece this week, barely but just in the nick of time! I LOVE popcorn! Not the microwave stuff mind you, but the pan popped style. SO when the opening scene of this episode began there was a bucket of popcorn, and right there I knew what my muse was going to be ;)
Shrink plastic, Prismacolors, Brass clasp, 23" length."

NEXT WEEK!

Episode 3:
"Welcome to the Future!"

"Project Runway" Season 13, Episode 3  Air Date: 08/07/14.

In this episode, the Project Runway designers were asked to integrate the past, present, and future in their creations and they were challenged to get inspiration from Marie Claire magazines from 1994, 20 years ago, to create looks they think will be relevant 20 years in the future.

So for the EtsyMetal Translation:
IF you were making jewelry in 1994, revisit one of your own creations and update it for 20 years in our future, 2034!
Or, make a piece that is inspired by your life in 1994 and modify it for the future 2034!

Sorry ... late! late, super late!

In January 1994 I began to study interior design, and before we had design and redering assited by computer we had to make the drawings and layouts by hand...yes, sounds like prehistoric fact. The ring is kind of a tribute to my own first T rule the one in the picture which I still treasure.
